Weary eyes

By SandySeaShore

Open your weary eyes it’s time to go

It’s been a month at home now don't you know?

How long will you be this time at sea?

Four months away from your lovely tea

My bags are ready for the next flight out

But still we have time to fool about

When I get the call I'm sure I’ll weep

I’ll just wipe my eyes before I leap

The work is hard but not the worst

I’ve well and truly been submersed

When I hear your voice on the line

I get a shiver down my spine

Such a big adventure I have soon ahead

But I just want to rest my weary head

A word from the author

This is a poem I wrote when I was at home waiting to join another ship to continue my cadet training. It is common to spent 3 months or more away from home working on merchant ships and taking a one month break at home.

How timely for you to post this hub and for my eyes to see it...I am off on a military deployment for the next 3 months, and your poem hit home with me. Thanks so much for sharing it!
